Talkin' Jazz

Talkin’ Jazz is a community music program for young jazz musicians to meet, learn and play.

Beginner jazz workshop

MONDAY 30th JUNE – THURSDAY 3rd JULY

This four day workshop is for musicians who are keen to jump into jazz and learn performance and improvisation skills as well as some fantastic jazz repertoire. You’ll learn from our amazing mentors and meet other young jazz musicians in the relaxed workshop environment.

"My favourite thing about the workshop was making friends and music."

The Workshop requires attendants to be able to play their instruments as there will not be time to teach beginner-level technical skills. Otherwise all attendants need is enthusiasm and a desire to learn more. This Workshop is designed for musicians who are curious about jazz music, want to learn more about jazz music and want to gain improvisational and performance skills.

The Workshop focuses on listening as well as jazz performance skills such as improvisation, soloing, stage craft and arrangement. Regular program mentors Cassie Whitehead, Katie Randall and Bede Prince run the workshop.

"It was awesome to play with so many musicians with similar goals to me and hearing from the mentors."

One of the aims of the Talkin' Jazz program is to connect young musicians with each other and this workshop is a great opportunity to do that while gaining confidence and having fun.
