April school holidays 08/04 - 12/04
This year we are pleased that our Beginner’s Workshop is returning. This five day, educational workshop is for musicians who are less experienced in jazz and want to learn performance and improvisation skills as well as some fantastic jazz repertoire. You’ll learn from some amazing teachers and guest mentors: (TBC). You'll also perform at the Brisbane Jazz Club and meet other young jazz musicians.
"My favourite thing about the workshop was making friends and music."
The Workshop requires attendants to be able to play their instruments as there will not be time to teach beginner-level technical skills. Otherwise all attendants need is enthusiasm and a desire to learn more. This Workshop is designed for musicians who are curious about jazz music, want to learn more about jazz music and want to gain improvisational and performance skills.
The Workshop focuses on listening as well as jazz performance skills such as improvisation, soloing, stage craft and arrangement. Regular program teachers Kayleigh Pincott and Brodie McAllister run the workshop with support from incredible visiting mentors. We will be announcing our mentors soon. Students get to learn from, jam, rehearse and work with some of Australia's best jazz musicians.
At the end of the Workshop the students present a performance at the Brisbane Jazz Club supporting the main band.
"It was awesome to play with so many musicians with similar goals to me and hearing from the mentors."
One of the aims of the Talkin' Jazz program is to connect young musicians with more experienced jazz musicians and educators. Over the course of the Performance Workshop guest mentors join the regular teachers to present masterclasses and performances. These mentors are some of Australia's best jazz musicians and all highly qualified and experienced composers and educators.
This is a truly unique experience to meet, play with and learn from some of the best of Australian jazz.
The Performance Workshop is held during the April school holidays (dates TBC).
The workshop will run 9am - 1pm, Monday - Friday with a performance at the Brisbane Jazz Club on the evening of April 13.
Students must attend the entire week of the Performance Workshop. This allows us to create something truly special.
Application forms will be available soon but if you are interested, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Talkin' Jazz will provide the following instruments: Drum Kit, Cymbals, Piano, Bass Amp, Guitar Amp, Vocal Mics/leads and P.A. Students need to bring their own instruments, instrument leads and sticks.
Please note, the Brisbane Jazz Club or Talkin’ Jazz do not take responsibility for your instrument while attending the Jam Sessions, Big Band or the Workshops.
