Talkin' Jazz

Talkin’ Jazz is a community for young jazz musicians to meet, learn and play.

Talkin’ Jazz is a community for young jazz musicians to meet, learn and play hosted and supported by the Brisbane Jazz Club.

It is a performance based jazz program for high school students who have an interest in playing jazz music and want to learn more about it and meet other like-minded musicians.

"I loved it because it gave me a place to play without feeling judged."

Talkin' Jazz consists of three programs: fortnightly Jam Sessions, a Big Band, and Performance Workshops. Through these programs we aim to connect the program musicians with more experienced jazz musicians and educators from around Australia.

This year we are excited to announce a new workshop: The Young Women’s Workshop. This is a five-day workshop for young women only, offering a unique experience for girls and young women to learn more about jazz, and jazz performance skills. This will happen in the July school holidays. You can email us now if you are interested in attending.

"I got to socialise with everyone, express myself on my instrument, and have loads of fun."

Talkin' Jazz is facilitated by Brisbane-based jazz musicians and high-school teachers: Dan Hirsch, Euan Cumming, Helen Svoboda, Kayliegh Pincott, Sam Maguire and Brodie McAllister. The program aims to create a community of jazz musicians and so offers many opportunities for students to learn from and work with some of Brisbane and Australia's best jazz musicians and educators.

In the past we've been visited by musicians including: Rafael Karlen, Kristin Berardi, Ben Hauptmann, Helen Russell, Steve Newcomb, John Morrison, Sandy Evans and Ellen Kirkwood.
